Hey, I’m Maeghan!

I am a Jesus follower, wife, mom, friend, illustrator + designer loving and living life in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

My illustrations are whimsical and playful, with an intention to make you feel some joy or just make you feel at home-whether you’re bringing a story to life or hanging it over your newborn’s crib. I am available for licensing, freelance commissions and collaborations, and love doing custom art!

As a branding designer, I believe in collaboration and partnership. I love to bring your design to life, while also opening your mind to the possibilities of all that it could be! I’ve created logos + branding for non-profits, small business start-ups and ministries.

No matter what brought you here, I’m so glad that you ARE here. Let’s make something!

The Story of Sun +Shade

In 2022, I became a mom.

The origin of that is sort of what became the origin of this brand, although getting here took some time. I guess I should start there.

Let’s go back to the beginning.

In August of 2022, we brought home our first daughter. Her name means “bright + shining Christ follower.” (Not so coincidentally, her nursery was themed “You Are My Sunshine” before we even knew her name, but that’s a story for another day). When she was born, I was unprepared for the way becoming a mom would change me. I’d never felt this kind of love, but also had never felt further from myself. Being creative was the one thing that made me feel like “me” again. I started illustrating more and making art for friends. I created brands for fun (one called “Essentially Phoebe” for a non-existent children’s boutique, still dreaming about that one). So, in May of 2023 I started an Instagram for a place to put it all and called it “Maeghan Morin Design.” It felt good to attach my name to my art, but in so many ways I couldn’t connect with the business side. It felt bigger than just me.

Then in 2024, we welcomed our second daughter. Her name means “A forest of favor.” While I loved her name, the meaning only felt so -so. (If you haven’t already noticed, I’m really invested into the meaning of names and the story they tell). While praying one day after she was born, I was reminded of a sermon at a women’s conference, where the speaker said “the grace of God should feel like the shade of a tree.” *insert sigh here* She was a forest full of grace-our shade baby. I could go into paragraphs of how this is who she is, but to keep it short, I will just say that the name fits.

Alas, we now have our two girls- the sun and the shade. And thus, Sun + Shade Studio was born. Our children always have a way of inspiring us, I expected that. But in so many ways I never did expect, my girls have pushed me to the creativity that has lead me back to myself. In meeting them, I have met the bravest, most authentic me. And I hope you see a little bit of that here.
